Bunjil Place Studio Transcript

This is an intimate and immensely flexible black box performance and exhibition space.  Designed to be a canvas for contemporary and smaller performances and art forms, it allows different configurations for lighting through numerous gangways above, which can suspend props, sets and displays.  The side walkways add an extra layer of interaction and flexibility, and seating can be formal rows utilising the retractable seating, or informal through loose seating configurations.

The walls once again have a balance of hard acoustic surfaces partnered with sound absorbing perforations.  There have already been classical recitals as well as art exhibitions, choirs and forums held in the Studio, paving the way for an exciting suite of experiences. The flat floor studio is suitable for rehearsals, circus performances, creative development projects and small intimate performances and can accommodate up to 200 patrons.

It has also been designed to host conferences and trade shows, exhibitions, expos, cabarets and seated functions for up to 160 people. It can also act as a staging zone for the theatre. Other features include:

  • structurally isolated and acoustically treated to prevent sound and vibration spill in and out of the area.
  • automated, retractable seating system that folds back into a recess at the end of the room.
  • Flexible rigging system.
  • Sacrificial floor suitable for dance performances.
  • Direct access to the loading dock and the theatre back of house.
